Triplet steps footwork pattern is very versatile and is widely used in bellydance. Let us learn this pattern and see how we can layer hipwork accents on these steps.
The basic pattern is
step, feet together, step
How to use these steps in dance?
First of all you can just use them as such and add another bellydane move before or after a triplet. For instance you can make 1 set of these steps diagonally... if I start with this foot - I travel in the opposite direction... 123... and I will turn the last step into this bellydance arabesque - it's a pivot.
We'll add a hip push to every step:
step push, push, push -- step push, push, push.
These are hip accents layered on your footwork.
and as a backup step...
now traveling sideways...
The fundamental concept here is that the movement of the hips is pretty much generated by your knees. Watch my knees during our triplet step.....123....123.....123...123..... This is extremely important, no matter what hipwork you do your knees work at all times bending and straightening. So it's really easy to layer any bellydance hipwork on these steps becaue even the most basic step involves bending and straightening of your knee.Less
